Upcoming events

August 1: Will Gillespie's Old World Romance plays three different shows. Part classical string quartet, part New Orleans Dixieland/Ragtime, part gypsy jazz, part rock band, part lonesome country. Like looking at the world from a Venetian gondola in the 20's. The sound of falling in Love. We're in the heartbreaking business and we're working overtime. Made up of Will Gillespie on guitar and piano, Josh Turnbull on percussion and trumpet, Anna Atkinson on violin and accordion and Agnes Malkinson on cello.
3-5pm: If it’s a sunny day, a matinee at the Laughing Buddha on the patio. Pay-what-you-can.
7pm: An evening concert at the Gazebo in Bell Park. Free for the whole family.
10pm: A nightime show at the Townehouse tavern. Age of majority required. $5.00 also also playing as the Nightlife, their indie garage-rock alter ego.

August 3-27, Opening Reception August 7 from 1-4: SPIRIT - Exhibition by Kathy Browning and Gene Solomon. Spirit” exhibit explores relationship between two- and three-dimensional art and features the work of photographer Kathy Browning and woodworker and soapstone sculptor Gene Solomon. Solomon’s poignant sculptures are juxtaposed against Browning’s stirring photography, creating a multi-sensory experience for the viewers and allowing them to connect with nature in a very real way. August 20-26: Tracing the 1837 Journey of Anna Jameson. A Canoe Trek From Thessalon to Great La Cloche Island. A seven day canoe trek for new and experienced paddlers. Trace the route of Anna Jameson, the first non-aboriginal woman to canoe the Mackinac-Manitoulin passage. Visits sites off the beaten track. Join us as we tent under the stars in the stunning beauty of the North Channel, and travel through the famous Benjamin Islands. Led by expert canoe and adventure guide Chris Taggert, you'll receive paddling tips and
hear stories about Chris's adventures. The history, culture, art and literature of the area will come alive through professor and writer Tom Gerry, PhD, and writer/artist Sophie Edwards, PhD Candidate. We'll also be guided to a sacred site by a local elder on the last day of the journey.

Nominations for the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship are now being accepted. You can participate by nominating a deserving citizen. Recipients will be presented with their medal by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at a special ceremony at Queen’s Park in the Fall of 2010.
