Involvement in Municipal politics:
In the last municipal election The Sudbury Arts Council together with Sudbury
Secondary School hosted an all candidates meeting for the Mayor of the
City of Greater Sudbury. The focus of the debate was on Arts, Culture
and related topics - students and the general public attended. Before the
debate the performing arts students presented a selection from "The Sound of Music". SAC President Derek
Young and Sudbury Secondary School Principal Leslie Mantle welcomed the
candidates and the media panel.

The
candidates all generally agreed on the need for an "Arts" Centre and for the
need for more funding for the arts. The average community contribution
to the "arts" in Ontario is $11.00 per person - in Sudbury it is $3.00.
Good graffiti should be encouraged as an art form. Festivals should be
supported and more exposure for "artists".
