Book lovers of all ages and tastes are invited to share in adventures of the mind, explorations in language, discoveries in all fields and encounters with interesting people during this four-day event which is known for its stimulating, yet warm and relaxed atmosphere.
In the spirit of its theme (which could be translated as “Wanderings over hill and tale”), Le Salon du livre will be held under the honorary presidency of Marguerite Andersen, a grande dame of Franco-Ontarian literature who has travelled extensively.
Flush with the success of her novel Ru (“lullaby” in Vietnamese) in nearly 20 countries, Kim Thúy will evoke her voyage among the “boat people” that eventually led her to Québec. Mãn, her newly released novel, further explores the experience of exile and is attracting much media attention.
The Acadian author France Daigle, who has been collecting literary awards for nearly twenty years, will make her first visit to Sudbury, on the wings of her Governor General’s Award for her latest novel, Pour sûr.
Three major stage shows are planned during the book fair, but for the time being, just one is announced. The well-loved singer-songwriter Thomas Hellman will at last be returning to Sudbury with his new songs interpreting the works of the great poet Roland Giguère. This concert is presented by La Slague du Carrefour francophone.
In all, over 20 renowned writers will travel to Sudbury to meet with readers in a wide variety of activities: literary happy hours, literary luncheons, a “tea and reading” series, and the “French Kiss” series of bilingual performances showcasing French literary works.
Furthermore, nine children’s authors will interact with young readers in no less than 130 workshops presented in area schools and at the book fair. Though it may go largely unnoticed by the general public, this is a major component of the book fair.
As in past editions, the 6th biennial Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury will feature tens of thousands of books published by over one hundred publishing houses from Québec, Canada and international French-speaking countries.
There will also be writing workshops, illustration workshops, a showcase of on-screen
reading and digital publishing, as well as many other events to be announced shortly.
Alternative arts mingled with literary arts the book fair’s festive spirit will enjoy a boost of energy from experimental artists, as Le Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury coincides with FAAS, the Festival of alternative arts in Sudbury. This event hosted by the
Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario in the Rainbow Centre (next to the Radisson Hotel) invites 30 performance and installation artists to explore a chosen theme in inventive and thought-provoking ways.

Dragon Boat Festival: Each year in July, boats from Sudbury and across the province take to the water on Lake Ramsey to compete in the Annual Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival. Competitive and Recreational teams alike enjoy the competition on the 500-metre course.
